I'm loving these 'fake' Japanese advertising characters by Argentinian designer/illustrator Juan Molinet. He's thinking of creating a series of 12 and possibly releasing them as a collectible toy set. I say 'do it, do it'. But the FUN doesn't stop with these. Over at Juans Behance folio he has some pretty serious work that's worth checking out if you're looking for a fix of cute characters and BOLD in ya faaaace colours.

Well, it's not such a secret anymore as it's all over that indanets but i thought i would share with ya'll anyway the news that Johnny Cupcakes is opening a new store right here in LONDON. That's right Folks, the sooper dooper JC brand is now fully international with it's 4th store opening up just around the corner and boy am i excited. I was lucky enough to get down and have a sneak peek at the store last weeknd and meet Johnny himself and boy was i amazed. I braced myself to be blown away but i wasn't expecting the wonderful delights inside the closed doors. With only a week to go until the grand opening be sure to start putting your pennies aside as there will be a shit load of collectible items made especially for London only so you'll want to grab them while stocks last. OPENING Saturday 12th March at 10 Fouberts place London. Be there or be a cupcake! www.johnnycupcakes.com

Recently i was approached by Australian artist/illustrator and Wooden Toy contributor Sean Morris to write a reference letter to aid in gaining funding for a proposed exhibition at Hype Gallery in New York this year. It wasn't that hard to write seriously coz this kid's work, and work ethic is sooo darn fucking off the hook that it pretty much wrote itself. Well, he got the funding and is off to New York for his show "Tendancies" March 10 - April 3, 2011 at Bold Hype Gallery 547 W 27th St, 5th floor, NEW YORK. It's going to be a group show incuding Lori D & Porous Walker. If you're in New York, put the date in your ical, if not... BOOK A FUCKING PLANE TICKET!!! www.illsean.com

Music Edition cover artist, Australian Rock Poster LEGEND and all around good fella Ken Taylor has launched a new website and along with it a Super Sized bucket of new work. I swear everytime i look at Ken's work i get a massive inferiority complex happening! How does he do it? Sure bloody glad he does and now, with his easy to navigate 'brand new' website, we can all sit back (or fall back) on our chairs and take in the madness that is the work of Ken Taylor. Oh yeah, you can read all about him and his work in the latest edition of Wooden Toy if you haven't got yo'self a copy yet. Just head on over to the shop and grab one. www.kentaylor.com.au

It's been a while in between posts i know but hey, we all need a break sometime. After some technical difficulties in the form of nasty hard drive crashes and stolen computers we've shaken off a relatively 'shiite' start to the year by beginning on some of our BIG plans for 2011. Watch this space for more on that soon. But speaking of BIG ideas... check this shit out??? It seems all that Perth (Australia) wanted for Christmas was a 99 metre long Mural by Melbourne artists TWOONE and BONSAI. With 99m of concrete as their canvas, these two artists began a spectacular mural in December in the inner city laneway, Grand Lane. Commissioned by the City of Perth, the mural is being painted by Scott Neoh and Hiroyasu Tsuri – more commonly known as Bonsai and Two-One. Melbourne artist NIELS OELTJEN (aka Nails) also contributed to the development of the concept. Grand Lane is the second laneway to be refurbished as part of the City’s Forgotten Spaces Laneway Activation Strategy. The first was Howard Lane which was finished last year. More info HERE
